EMERSON JAMES historical BOY SCOUT trophy 1st. African American Vigil Honor RARE

This HISTORIC trophy was awarded permanently to troop 547 in 1932. The troop leader, Emerson James, from Chicago was the first African American to become a Vigil Honor member in 1936; the highest achievement in scouting. Troop 547 was awarded this trophy permanently for being the winner of the BINGA BANK EFFICIENCY TROPHY to the BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA. African American Jesse Binga was the owner of Binga Bank in Chicago. As far as collectables of The Boy Scouts of America, this is about the finest item possible to collect. It is Historic in several avenues, as you will find out with research. It is a heavy quality piece. Made of sterling over Bronze; not white metal. Base reads: Sterling Decorated Bronze, silver crest, 2419-43. I believe the round base insert is solid sterling. Trophy measures 12&3/4 tall, by 8&1/2 wide handles, with a 5&1/2 wide base, and weighs 3 pounds 7&1/2ounces. Has some dents, but this is the ONLY one out there. everything is in the images, nothing hidden. Trophy contest ran from 1927 to 1932. Back of trophy reads: WON BY TROOP, 1927-532, 1928-448, 1929-448, 1930- 547, 1931-547, 1932-547. Permanently awarded to Troop 547, Good Shepherd Cong. church, E. JAMES, SCOUT LEADER, I. JAMES- ASST. LEADER. Front of trophy reads: BINGA BANK EFFICIENCY TROPHY to THE BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA. Has 2 ART DECO Raised outlines of Boy Scouts on front and back, really great look. NOTE; did not polish or clean, that is up to you, but it might shine up nice.
